The skill in practice
Effective Writing
Make the thinking clear. Keep the voice yours.
Effective Writing turns supplied ideas and evidence into prose a particular reader can use. It works at article length, at team-message length, and down to the punctuation a locale expects. Structure, facts, qualifications, and the author’s voice stay connected through the edit.
The range
What it covers
- Structure and argument
- Thesis, scope, leads, sequence, transitions, endings, Minto pyramids, and logic audits.
- Prose and revision
- Clarity, verbs, syntax, rhythm, line editing, and structural revisions that preserve the author’s meaning.
- Human voice
- Evidence-based audits of formulaic or AI-sounding patterns, with the smallest useful edits and no authorship guesses.
- Articles and case studies
- Essays, newsletters, thought leadership, technical explainers, editorial case studies, and public project prose.
- Team communication
- Slack updates, issues, PR comments, and German source text turned into natural US team English.
- Locale typography
- Quotation marks, spacing, dashes, numbers, dates, and hyphenation for thirteen European languages in prose, UI strings, and print.

How it works
Find the point
Identify the reader’s question, the intended outcome, the source material, and the voice to preserve.
Shape and write
Build a coherent argument, then work through structure, evidence, rhythm, and precise language.
Review against the source
Check claims, qualifications, terminology, and locale conventions before calling the draft finished.
The result: A clear piece of factual writing that preserves the evidence and the intended voice.
Ask in your own words
Try a real task.
Give the agent the relevant files, source material, and constraints. Start with an outcome like one of these:
Turn these workshop notes into a 1,500-word article for product leaders. Make a clear argument, preserve my direct voice, and flag any proof we still need.
Audit this draft for formulaic or AI-sounding patterns. Quote the evidence and suggest the smallest useful fix, but do not rewrite it or guess who wrote it.
Rewrite this German status note as a Slack update that sounds like a teammate wrote it, not a press release.
Choose the right discipline
When to use it
Use this skill for factual editorial prose, revision, team messages, and locale typography. Commercial-choice copy and channel strategy belong to Effective Marketing; implementation-derived technical documentation belongs to Effective Delivery. The skill does not invent experience, quotations, citations, or outcomes, and a pattern audit cannot establish who wrote a text.

Install Effective Writing
With Node.js installed, run this command for an agent that supports Agent Skills:
npx skills add sebastian-software/effective-agent --skill effective-writing
Then describe your task in the agent. This skill works on its own; add another when the work crosses disciplines.
